Sweet Potatoes III

Sweet potato slips

Six weeks on and my sweet potato slips are romping away now; must be the warmer weather.

Was feeling brave today so have carefully detached the largest one (about 8cm long, or roughly the length of a finger) by gently pulling and twisting.

Popped it into water, sat it on the radiator (see below) and hopefully it will root soon.

    I admire your adventurous spirit!

Has this detached slip rooted yet?

Will you grow it under a cloche of some kind?

Hi Handy Andy, the detached slips root very quickly – within a couple of days. I’ve potted a few of them up now and they’re looking ok. I won’t plant them outside until the end of May/beg of June and I’ll probably warm the soil a couple of weeks beforehand by covering it with black plastic. I might consider using a cloche if the weather isn’t great in June. Fingers crossed!!
